Star Students of the Week

Miles and Niall

Ka pai to Mahi-we are all so proud of you!

Daffodil Day

A Daffodil
A little yellow cup,
A little yellow frill,
A little yellow star,
And that's a daffodil

Maths with an arty twist! We can estimate, measure and compare the length of our daffodils. Today we investigated… How many cubes tall is your daffodil? How many cubes wide is your daffodil?
We can use cubes to measure the length and width of small objects.

Science Alive

Room 4 have been enjoying presenting Science experiments to the class for news. We think it is fun to be a Scientist! We have been learning to make predictions and use our senses to describe what we see. Our writing has come alive too!

Today I made butter for my Science Experiment. It was fun because Mum came to school with me to help. First we put cream and salt in the jar, making sure the lid was on tight. Next we had to shake it. Everybody had a turn, our arms got really tired. Mum had a turn and the jar exploded on her. The lid came off and mum was covered in creamy butter!  Mum thought it was good that it didn’t get all over us. Then we got to taste it. We ate it on crackers. The butter tasted sweet. I think home made butter is delicious. By Sophie Field Year 1
I made a volcano it was fun. Inside the volcano we had to put in some ingredients. You need baking soda, red food colouring and you also need vinegar and water.  Then the volcano will explode and you will see red lava coming out and bubbles too! It made a fizz sound. That is the chemical reaction. By Jaimee Rogers Year 1
Today I did a Science experiment. First we put the blue milk in the container. Next we put in four different colours of dye. Then we put a circle of dish soap in the container. Last we blew the mixture. It made a whirlpool. The dish soap made the colours move. Shia’s experiment looked like the World, it had lots of green bubbles. Roy’s experiment was like magic. I liked them. Science is fun! By Monique Higgins Year 1
Today Mum came to school to help me and Room 4. We did some Science. First we had to put into the bowl some milk and some green food colouring. We also put in some oil. Then we had to wait for a minute and then blow the mixture with a straw. It made bubbles! I like Science. By Shia Green Year 1

Letter Writing

We read the story 'The Jolly Postman' it was a special book because inside it had letters to all our favourite fairytale characters…

We decided to write some letters too! We wrote to our parents, grandparents, sisters, brothers and friends. Our letters went all over New Zealand. Harrison even wrote to an aunty in Australia. It was exciting waiting for the letters to arrive in the post and some of our class even got letters back.

Ready to go and post our letters at the shop.

Go Team!

To celebrate the end of the Commonwealth Games our school had a sports day. The school was split up in to 20 different countries. We would like to thank our big buddies for looking after us so well. The opening ceremony was so much fun. Mrs Adams made a great Queen and the bagpipers were amazing, we really felt like we were in Scotland!
